A New Well of Living Water for Thirsty Hearts
WHY SHOULD I GO TO SUNDAY SCHOOL?
Many people have said, "Why should I go to Sunday School? The Bible does not say anything about Sunday School."
My friend, the word 'Rapture' is not found in the Bible either, but we know one day the Lord Jesus Christ will catch us away when "The Trump of God" will sound.
In the Word of God, the Church is instructed to take the Gospel around the world, baptize those who receive Christ as their Savior, then teach them the Word of God. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach (make disciples of) all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching (instruct or teach) them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (MATT. 28:18-20)
We find in the Word of God that the method of teaching the Word of God is left up to the local church; but what is taught is left up to God, "whatsoever I have commanded you."
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (II TIM 2:15) This is the command of God to all Christians. He has given us the way to study His Word. Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: (ISA. 28:9-10)
Many will say, "I can study the Bible at home." That may be true, but the fact remains, that many people who don't attend church on a regular basis (meaning Sunday School, Morning Worship, Sunday Night, and Wednesday Evening), don't read and/or study their Bible on a daily basis.
Sunday School also gives the Christian an opportunity to have close fellowship with other Christians. If you are one that has more fellowship with the lost crowd, that should be a red flag to you.
Many excuses have been given for not going to Sunday School:
1) It's too early. If we were going fishing or shopping, it would not be too early.
2) I have worked all week and Sunday morning is my time to sleep in. Most of the time, we are up at our regular time anyway.
3) Sunday morning is my family time and God put the family first. Nowhere in the Word of God is it taught that we are to put anything before God and His work. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (EX. 20:3)
There are so many excuses they all cannot be named in this article, but we are taught in the Word of God, " Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. (HEB. 10:23-25)
As we look at the world around us we see the Day of the Lord is at hand. Let us be busy about the Lord's work and be obedient to His Word. It seems as though we should be looking for more reasons to have church and Sunday School rather than looking for reasons not to have them. It's time for us to stand up and be who we say we are.
God spoke through Elijah saying, "How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him." Don't stand on the fence, but say as God inspired Joshua to say, "Choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." (JOSHUA 24:15)
We find in the Word of God that the local church is the Body of Christ.
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. (I COR. 12:27) Now the Lord has a particular reason for placing you in that Body of Christ. For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked: That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. ( I COR. 12:24-26) "And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." (ACTS 2:47) Since God has placed you in the Body of Christ called "Rechoboth Baptist Church", should you not be in your place so the body functions properly?
The Church is a very intricate part of God's plan for His children. Salvation is also His plan for the people of the world. When Christ paid for your sin on the cross, was buried, and rose again the third day; he never quit and never gave up! He never dropped the ball once. Please don't drop your end of the pole.
See you in Sunday School!
